Thank you Citizens United.
Thank you rabid right-wing conservatives obsessed with and filled with hatred for Hillary Clinton.
You and you alone are responsible for fatally wounding Democracy in America.
Your obsession with every tin-foil hat conspiracy theory about the Clintons, born of a hatred so irrational that facts cannot pierce the shroud of stupidity and ignorance you clothe yourselves in, has birthed a monster intent on destroying the American electoral system.
You see, because of this conspiracy laden film you wanted broadcast in violation with Federal Election guidelines, now 7 men own you.
Your fact-free ignorance has facilitated the purchase of the Republican Party by 7 men.
If you look at the $94 million dollars spent by SuperPACs (the child of Citizens United) nearly one half, 50%, came from seven men. The top three are:
Harold Simmons, $5.2 million. An 80-year-old multi-billionaire based in Dallas, this hardcore rightist is both a corporate buccaneer and political profiteer, often combining the two to line his own pockets
Bob Perry, $4.1 million. Even though they’re unrelated, this 79-year-old Houston homebuilding tycoon is nonetheless Gov. Rick’s “daddy,” having fathered his gubernatorial career with a big infusion of money and nurtured it with more cash over the years than anyone. And when daddy calls, Rick jumps.
Along with 4 others who contributed at least $2 million each.
These seven men will most assuredly contribute millions to Romney’s general election campaign. Crossroads GPS alone is expected to raise and spend more money in the general election than all of John McCain‘s campaign did in 2008.
Oh, and this is only a portion. You see, unlimited money can now be filtered into campaigns without disclosing where the money comes from. Want to know why?
SuperPACs are only Wave One of the financial tsunami sweeping over America’s politics this year. Wave Two, also authorized by Citizens United, will be even larger, for it allows Fortune 500 giants to siphon as much money as they want directly out of their corporate vaults and pour it into campaigns–while keeping the sources of the money secret from voters. These totally secret, corporate political funds are laundered through outfits organized under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code as (WARNING: The following fact is so stupefying that it can cause temporary insanity in sensible people) non-profit “social welfare organizations” engaged in charitable work!
Yes, your hatred of Hillary and the misguided and idiotic belief that money=speech now allows laundered money from anonymous sources to flow unencumbered into the American political system.
Thank you Hillary Haters.
In your misguided and Quixotic attempt to ensure democracy, you’ve dealt it a fatal blow.
