Would Martin Luther King Really Support Afghan, Iraq Wars?

Cover of Martin Luther King, Jr. Jeh C. Johnson, the Department of Defense’s general counsel, believes he would.  In the DoD‘s annual commemmoration of Dr. King’s legacy, Johnson posed the question “If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, would he understand why the United States is at war?”  Here was his answer: “I believe that if Dr. King were alive today, he would recognize that we live in a complicated world, and that our nation’s military should not and cannot lay down its arms and leave the American people vulnerable to terrorist attack.” He then invoked the parable of the Good Samaritan to explain his belief. Misplaced Priorities

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 24 hours, Michael Jackson passed away from a Demerol induced heart attack yesterday at the age of 50. From what I gather on Twitter and other social media, there has been an astoundingly stupid amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth over the death of one man. While I agree it’s a tragedy, I believe that the last 24 hours only spotlight how misplaced our priorities are as a society.
