Seriously…what the frakk, people?  Now, I know there will always be people who say stupid, irrational, or outright batsh*t crazy things, but today seems to be one of those days where “teh crazy” is out in full force.

Just today:

Rush Limbaugh announced that the villain from The Dark Knight Rises, Bane, is part of an anti-Romney conspiracy.  Seriously… he said this.

Have you heard, this new movie, the Batman movie—what is it, the Dark Knight Lights Up or something? Whatever the name of it is. That’s right, Dark Knight Rises, Lights Up, same thing. Do you know the name of the villain in this movie? Bane. The villain in the Dark Knight Rises is named Bane. B-A-N-E. What is the name of the venture capital firm that Romney ran, and around which there’s now this make-believe controversy? Bain. The movie has been in the works for a long time, the release date’s been known, summer 2012 for a long time. Do you think that it is accidental, that the name of the really vicious, fire-breathing, four-eyed, whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane?

Someone should remind Limbaugh that Bane has been a comic book villain for almost 20 years.

The Gospel Coalition posts a book excerpt that says rape is a consequence of egaltarianism.  Seriously, they said this.

Words cannot describe how vile this is.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joke Joe Arpaio holds another birther press conference.  Seriously.

He said their analysis is finished and that they can prove the document has been manipulated.

“It’s time for this charade to stop,” Zullo said.

After the investigation, Zullo said the U.S. would have to question the citizenship of anyone with a birth certificate from Hawaii.

Arpaio said he believes President Obama’s birth certificate released last year is a “computer-generated forgery.”

Sorry Hawaiians, our laughing stock of a Sheriff doesn’t believe you are actually Americans.

John Sununu comes completely unhinged, calls the President a dope smoker, wishes he would “learn to be American”.  Seriously.

“The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build their businesses from the ground up is how our economy became the envy of the world,” Sununu said. “It is the American way, and I wish this president would wish how to learn how to be an American.”

“He has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn’t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something, spent the next set of years in Indonesia, another set of years in Indonesia,” he said. “And, frankly, when he came to the U.S. he worked as a community organizer, which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago.”

I really think that conservatism has gone over the edge, jumped the shark, and, honestly, is dying a slow, painful death by a thousand cuts.

Perhaps this version, this batshit crazy version, will finally die and reasonable conservatism will return.

One can dream, can’t they?
