JD Hayworth: “US Never Declared War On Germany”
Here in the land of the desert sun, election season is quickly approaching. I can’t imagine this race turning out to be anything but nasty. JD has a long history of running ugly, smear-filled, dirty campaigns. I remember calling his campaign in 1998 when he was running against Steve Owens expressing my discontent over the nasty campaign he was running.
His staff’s response? “Well, they started it!”
Note – I also called Owens’ campaign over the same issue and got a similar response. I didn’t vote for either that year.
Fast forward to 2010. After using his radio show, for years, to beat up on Sen. McCain, JD has decided to put his money where his mouth is.
….and that, my friends, is where comedy gold comes from.
You see, JD is firmly entrenched in the birther camp. Although he’ll deny it, he has made comments as recently as this year hinting around this issue. He even had “Queen of the Birfers”, Orly Taitz, on his radio show. Rest assured, it was not a “one-time” event, as he had done numerous shows on the subject.
If that weren’t enough to make this guy’s campaign nothing more than a footnote in AZ election history, last week he came up with this gem.
“But I would also point out, that if we want to be sticklers, the war that Dwight Eisenhower led in Europe against the Third Reich was never declared by the United States Congress,” said Hayworth. “Recall, the Congress passed a war resolution against Japan. Germany declared war on us two days later. We never formally declared war on Hitler’s Germany, and yet we fought the war.”
Uhhh…what?
I can understand missing the more nuanced points in history, but to miss this one?
It’s inexcusable.
Let’s go to the tape, shall we?
Just genius.
But, this being Arizona, and with JD cozying up to the Tea Party crowd (causing McCain to run further right), it’s not entirely crazy to think that this guy could pull out a victory in the GOP primary.
Nothing in AZ politics surprises me anymore.
