Seriously.
By now you know that Dinesh D’Souza darling of the Christian Right, defender of all things “traditional marriage“, and conspiracy-theorist extraordinaire has recently been busted for having an affair with a woman to which he is ‘engaged’. Nevermind that he only recently (October 4th, when this became public) filed for divorce.
In recent interviews, one with Christianity Today, D’Souza offered up perhaps the lamest excuse ever… in which he feigns ignorance of the same Christian values he often trumpets.
In both the CT interview and in his statement, D’Souza says he and his wife were separated for two years, and that he was trying to do the honorable thing by getting engaged to Joseph to legitimize their relationship. He says he consulted a lawyer who gave him the green light to get engaged while still legally married. D’Souza says, “I had no idea that it is considered wrong in Christian circles to be engaged prior to being divorced, even though in a state of separation and in divorce proceedings. Obviously I would not have introduced Denise as my fiancé at a Christian apologetics conference if I had thought or known I was doing something wrong.” - ReligionDispatches
Just the fact he claims he “didn’t know it was wrong in Christian circles” makes me wonder what “Christian circles” he’s been running around in.
