Process Theology, Cornhole, And Homebrew

Yep.  I’m off to California, starting Tuesday, for a few days to attend the Emergent Village Theological Conversation on Process Theology.  It’s a new, to me, theological position, one that I can see some of the plusses and minuses in.  I’m definitely looking forward to learning more over the next few days and getting to pick Bruce Epperly‘s brain a little.  I’ve been reading his book to study up for this conference, so it’ll be an experience to be able to interact with him a bit. I’m also pretty stoked to hear Julie Clawson.  In “God, Creation, and Theology – A Few Questions“, she expresses some of the same concerns about Process thought that I do, particularly concerning the presuppositions that Process moves forward from. It goes without saying that it’ll be … Read entire article »

Monday Mind Dump | More #Misbehavin

We’re now three weeks into 2012 and things are settling down into the standard rhythm after a fairly hectic holiday season.  Kids are back in school, heading towards spring break, and work has returned to somewhat normalcy. So, what could I possibly have on my mind? Well, the way my mind works, once things become somewhat automatic, it frees up brain cells to contemplate life, the universe, and everything.  In other words, it leaves plenty of time to be misbehavin’. First – This was a great weekend.  I skated out of work early on Friday to spend some QT with Charlotte.  One of my outcomes this year was to definitely spend more time dating my wife.  I truly believe that it’s one of the keys to a successful marriage.  We got to hang … Read entire article »

2012 | I Aim To Misbehave…

It’s hard to believe it’s already 2012, as it seems we were just celebrating, and fearing, the year 2000 a couple months ago.  But, alas, we’re already into the second decade since we all sat around our computers that night, waiting to see if it’d crash. I considered doing a “year in review” post, but decided against it.  Instead, I’ve chosen to do a “year in preview” simply because although plenty happened last year, successes and failures, gaining new friends and saying goodbye to others, I find focusing on the road ahead to be much more productive. With that, I’d like to thank Rod over at Political Jesus for the inspiration in choosing a motto for 2012. I aim to misbehave… I aim to speak out even more on issues that are important to … Read entire article »

#FantasyFootball Friday | 2011 Week 5

I need to subtitle this one the “I hate the no-cut list” edition. Back in the draft, I grabbed Reggie Wayne because I believed that Peyton Manning would play this year, and I got him for a steal.  Well, Manning’s out, Painter’s in, and I’m stuck with Wayne. Now, on to the gruesome details. 0-2 again last week.  Yep, that’s two winless weeks in a row. Yahoo Final score: 210.05 – 239.65.  Not too bad, but not that close either.  My stars are seriously underperforming in this league.  Wayne, Roddy White, Santonio Holmes, Mario Manningham….as Chris Carter would say “c’mon man!” I’m actually the underdog this week, which I kind of like…. seems to be a little luckier for me.  I also made a couple moves, picking up Stevan Ridley (RB-NE) and Titus Young (WR-Det).  Not … Read entire article »

#FantasyFootball Friday | 2011 Week 4

Well,  last weekend was an unmitigated disaster.  My teams went 0-2 in near blowout losses. Yahoo I lost this game 275-224 behind Reggie Wayne and Santonio Holmes‘ combined 12 freakin’ points!  Meanwhile, my opponent had a number of players go off (Megatron, Ryan Matthews, and MJD just to name a few).  At the last minute I benched Romo for Newton because of his injury and, well, the Fantasy Football gods decided to reward me with a hurricane like downpour in Carolina.  Thanks… This week, things are starting to get a little sketchy.  Combine injuries and poor play with the “Can’t Cut” list and setting a lineup gets a bit difficult.  I dumped Jay Feely for Rian Lindell and Pierre Thomas for Dane Sanzenbacher this week.  Feely’s been struggling and Buffalo has been scoring … Read entire article »

Monday Mind Dump | 9/26/11

Wow. So much has happened since the last Monday Mind Dump, I’m not even sure where to begin…but let’s give it a shot, eh? Church life has been, well, interesting.  The youth group I’ve been working with for the last few years is undergoing yet another change.  Sam, the longest serving youth pastor at 2 years, has transitioned out of the church and a good friend of mine, Tiffany Pierce, is coming back to lead.  Over the last year-ish we’ve had a small group of maybe 6-8 girls and, as far as I know, a few of those families are also leaving the church.  What this bodes for the youth, I don’t know.  I really have no idea what it’ll look like going forward.  To be honest, I haven’t attended that church … Read entire article »

Fantasy Football Friday | 2011 Week 3

As mentioned last week, my friends Rod and Adam and I are starting weekly Fantasy Football columns. Rod’s advice and preference for Wide Receivers is here. Adam’s Tight End obsession is here. Here’s the report for Salem’s Brew, week 2. 2-0 last week baby! ESPN League Another dominating performance, winning 121-99 in a standard scoring league.  With Stafford (25) and Best (23) leading Detroit’s rout of Kansas City, this game wasn’t ever really close.  This team was drafted to dominate and two weeks in I’m the highest scoring team. This week, I’ve got the kiss of death, 80% of the advantage checkmarks, but I’m not too worried.  I’m starting Rivers (vs. KC), Best (vs. Min), Forte (vs. GB), Andre Johnson and DeSean Jackson at WR.  I’m looking to go 3-0 in this league after this weekend. YAHOO League This … Read entire article »

How Quickly They Grow Up

Today was the first day of school here, and as I was leaving for work this morning, I pulled the kids together for a “first day photo”. I was looking at this picture once I uploaded it and I was struck by how much the kids have grown up.  In a few days, Hally will be 13, Ashlyn will be 16 (gasp!), and Jake will be 10. Time flies quickly….too quickly sometimes. … Read entire article »

Sometimes, Arizonans Are Just Dumb

Growing up out here, whenever we heard a story about someone doing or saying something dumb, my Dad would usually say “Well, there’s another one that’s been in the sun so long his brain is fried.” Now, if you’ve been following the news here in Sand Land, you can pretty much take your pick of a long list of dumb things…. but arguing over a weather term? The massive dust storms that swept through central Arizona this month have stirred up not just clouds of sand but a debate over what to call them. Use of the term “haboob,” which is what such storms have long been called in the Middle East, has rubbed some Arizona residents the wrong way. “I am insulted that local TV news crews are now calling this kind of … Read entire article »

I’m on Google +

So far I like it.  It’s cleaner, much less cluttered, plus it’s easier to filter what you see in your stream along with who sees what you post. If you like, you can join me over at Google+   … Read entire article »
