The 10 Commandments Of Craft Beer
What makes a beer nerd truly good? We’ve been giving this some thought lately and came up with the graphic you see above. It’s the Ten Commandments of Craft beer, a set of guidelines that we think would lead to a better world if all beer fans followed. Of course, just like the real Ten Commandments, you may disagree. Honestly can’t say I disagree with any of these. Personally, I like #1 and #7 best. h/t – Beer and Whiskey Brothers … Read entire article »

Beer Wars – A Movie For Beer Lovers
I’m taking a short break from theology and politics with this post to make a public service announcement. Friends don’t let friends drink crap beer. To paraphrase Jim Koch of Sam Adams: “If all of our knowledge about beer comes from Bud, Miller, and Coors, it’s the same as all of our food knowledge coming from McDonalds.” Seriously, I homebrew. I have friends that homebrew. If all you drink is the “Big 3″, you’ve never really had a real beer. The “Big 3″ are like the Wal-Mart of the brewing industry….cheap, low quality, and predatory. However, if you like good beer, then I would highly recommend watching the movie “Beer Wars“. Even if you don’t like good beer, it may change your mind. Find Beer Wars on: Facebook Twitter … Read entire article »

Monday Mind Dump – 4/12
You can tell spring is in full effect by both the allergies infesting my house and the amount of yardwork I’ve been doing lately. This weekend I got half the yard thatched and over-seeded. Once the green bin goes out, I can clear out the remaining bougainvillea branches and get the other half of the yard done. No rest for the weary it seems. Now, on to the dump! I’ve been having nightmares since getting back from Dad’s funeral. They’re too the point that they wake me up AND I’ve managed to rub holes in the bedsheets at my feet. Obviously, I’m not very thrilled. Little known biblical fact – Jesus’ crown of thorns HAD to be made of bougainvillea branches. (Ok, maybe I made that one up) I finally made it out to … Read entire article »

My introduction to homebrewing
Yes, I brew my own beer, and I enjoy it. I only got into this hobby a few short months ago when I was introduced to it by a very good friend of mine. He had been brewing his own for a while and whenever we’d go to visit, he’d have some phenomenal beer on tap….java stout, oatmeal stout, summer wheat……you name it. I became curious and began asking questions like ‘What do you need?”, and the one everyone always asks, “Is it difficult?” Amazingly enough it isn’t. If you can boil water, you can make beer (it’s not THAT simple, I know, but pretty darn close). So, for Father’s day, my wife and I went down to Brewer’s Connection in Tempe, AZ, and I purchased my “First Brew Home Kit“, and came … Read entire article »
